Trauma-sensitive Yoga therapy

Come home to your body, still your mind

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Therapy is a form of holistic, body-oriented therapy. It is based on the understanding that a person's physical, mental, emotional, and energetic aspects are deeply interconnected. Today, neuroscience also recognises the connection between body and mind through the vagus nerve. Nevertheless, Western society still places a strong emphasis on the cognitive aspect of our being, leading us to primarily approach life from our minds.

At the same time, unresolved traumatic experiences can be stored in the body, which can make the body feel like an uncomfortable place to be. As a result, again, we often live primarily in our heads, disconnected from our bodies. This disconnection can lead to physical and psychological challenges such as anxiety, bodily tension and blockages, dissociation, difficulty setting boundaries, burnout, and more.Furthermore, we lose access to the deep wisdom and the sense of aliveness that live within us when we are out of touch with our bodies. Restoring the connection between head, heart, and pelvic bowl allows life energy to flow again and supports us in living a full and authentic life.

Integrate the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your being.

Jolien combines her training in polyvagal theory, trauma-sensitive yoga therapy, somatics, mindfulness, and non-dual tantric psychology to offer a holistic framework for exploring and strengthening the connection between body and mind. These individual sessions are tailored to your specific needs and intentions.

We begin by checking in to see what is alive for you in the moment, and then start exploring how being more present in your body could look like. We create space for the story your body tells through physical sensations, images, memories, and emotions. Your body sets the pace, and together we seek a balance between safety and the exploration of edges.

Trauma Center Trauma-sensitve yOGA

Jolien is trained in Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY), among other approaches. This therapeutic method was developed based on scientific research and is designed to support people with complex trauma or developmental trauma.

It offers you the opportunity to explore what it feels like to be consciously present in your body. You are invited to explore certain yoga postures. You always have the choice to not engage in the postures or adapt them to your own needs. Within each posture, two or three options are offered so that you can explore how you would like to embody the pose. You are encouraged to use your bodily sensations as your guide. The goal is not to become more flexible or stronger. The invitation is simply to be present in your body in the current moment.

Jolien remains on her own mat and shares the experience with you by practising the postures alongside you. You will therefore not be touched or physically adjusted during these sessions. No prior yoga experience is required. Variations and options are always offered, making trauma-sensitive yoga accessible to everyone.
